Watch me Demonstrate…

- collaging with paper silhouettes to create an interesting interplay of shapes - considering the form language of my pots while composing a dynamic surface - placing stencils in order to mitigate bleeding beneath my paper resists  - strategizing to remove or incorporate mistakes throughout the painting process And you’ll see it all clearly thanks to Alex Carros Media shooting everything in 4K!

Gain Insight Into My Process

In this course, I have included written materials where I discuss… - how to choose a color palette - which paper(s) work best and options for how to cut them at home - issues I have noticed from years of working with Amaco velvet underglaze colors - my glazing process  - and answers to frequently asked questions

My Preferred Tools & Materials

If you like mixing your own clay bodies and glazes, I’ve included the recipes I use with tips on how to mix and apply them. I’ll also show you what tools and materials work well for building up smooth layers of color, which materials are best to use as resists in different situations, and which glazes I use to soften my paintings and give them that rainy, “watercolor” look.

Hi! I’m Taylor. I’ll be your instructor.

I’ve been making pots since I first took a ceramics class in 2013. After five years of atmospheric firing and a little tendonitis, I switched to cone 6 electric firing in graduate school. I started adding layers of texture and color to my work, chasing surfaces that have a similar sense of richness, depth, and asymmetry as the surfaces I used to get out of wood and soda kilns. I’ve been loading layers of decoration techniques on pots for thousands of hours ever since!  I’ve been teaching workshops in person at ceramics institutions across the US and online since 2021. I’m excited to expand my reach more broadly and affordably by offering this virtual course to anyone interested in learning from me online!
